Many people have problem with mucous secretion in their throat,nose and in their chest. This secretion is produced by the mucous membrane of the respiratory system as a normal defense from bacterial or viral infections. People have an excessive amount of phlegm during cold,flu, sinusitis, allergies,or as a result of irritants like smoke, polluted air,to much laundry detergent and fabric softener in your cloth,dry indoor environment etc. but however this is very uncomfortable situation and next we’ll present you some tips and some recipes to know how to react in these cases:
First thing you have to do, is to recognize the reason for your secretion!
If you don’t have a cold,or simply if you don’t feel sick, you don’t cough and similar, probably your secretion is a result of some allergic reaction to a particular irritant. In that case you must find the reason and eliminate it!
But if the cause is a respiratory infection,pay attention of the color of your phlegm because any change in green,yellow, brown or red color , is almost always an indicator that you should visit a doctor!
With the appropriate medical treatment and with our homemade remedies you will get rid of the excessive phlegm and keep the balance in your body.
Honey and lemon
Honey is famous for its healing properties. Rich with many vitamins and minerals, with strong antiviral and antibacterial effects, it’s great remedy for many diseases! From the other side,we know well that lemon is high in vitamin C and it’s an alkaline food which is important especially when your body is under attack of bacterial infection. The bacteria and viruses responsible for colds and respiratory infections,grows in an acidic environment so taking an alkaline foods will help your body to bring back the pH level in normal range.
All you have to do is to mix well 1 tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and drink this three times a day to relieve congestion.
Apple Cider vinegar
Another alkaline product that will help you maintain a healthy pH balance and eliminate the excess of phlegm from your body.
Just add one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink this 2 or 3 times daily. Your mucus will become thinner and easy to remove.
Many people don’t like its specific taste but this is the most powerful natural product against all bacteria and viruses! Beside all important minerals and vitamin C, ginger contains some anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds which makes it perfect for weak immune system!
Those who love ginger’s taste, should chew 2-3 ginger slices daily and for those who don’t like it to much,we recommend to mix ginger with other products because in any case, it will help you eliminate the phlegm.
The best tea is with fresh ginger, chopped in thiny pieces. Put the pieces in boiling water and let them boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and add slice of lemon and honey.
Another great recipe:
In two cups of boiled water,put 6-7 pieces of ginger and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Cover it and leave to boil for a minute and then lower the temperature. Cook gently 5 minutes, strain the tea and add 1 tablespoon of honey. Drink this tea 2-3 times a day and you will soothe the congestion!
This is very helpful method for treating many issues. Breathing in a steam opens the smallest bronchi called bronchioles and helps release the clogged mucus which provides an instant relief. It’s very easy to do this at home: just add boiled water to a bowl,add 5-6 drops of essential oil or half a teaspoon of thyme and half a teaspoon rosemary, place your head over the bowl,put a towel over it and inhale! Repeat 3 times daily and just be sure to keep your eyes closed during inhalation! Soon you’ll feel how the mucus is getting more watery and you’ll be able to get rid of it!
You should also try gargling your throat with salt warm water and little turmeric. The warm water will calm your throat, the salt has antibacterial properties as well as turmeric. Just add half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Gargle with this solution 30 seconds and after spit it out. Repeat the process 3-4 times daily!
